Home-improvement giant Lowe's is outsourcing work at a South Carolina distribution center and is expected to eliminate 80 jobs.The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the Charleston distribution center is what the chain called a ``cross dock terminal'' where appliances are staged and prepared for delivery.Spokeswoman Maureen Wallace says the work is being turned over to a third-party operator by mid-February to drive efficiencies in their delivery network and improve service to customers. She says they are working with third-party providers to offer impacted associates the chance to apply for jobs.A spokesman for the North Carolina-based chain tells the newspaper that the warehouse will remain open. According to a notice, the transition is expected to be finalized by March 25.
