Measles continues to alarm health experts across the country.

So far cases of measles have been reported in 22 states this year. South Carolina, luckily, is not among them.

But health experts are warning the Palmetto State could be at risk.

Last year at least six cases of the virus were reported in Spartanburg County.

Health officials say it should be considered no coincidence that Spartanburg was also the county with the heist percentage of religious exceptions against taking the vaccine during the 2017 to 2018 school year.

About 90 percent of South Carolina citizens have gotten the measles vaccine. But between 2014 and 2018, the number of students who were exempt from the vaccine for religious reasons increased by more than 20,000.
