For this week’s cover story, we talked with Hunters for the Hungry board member Tim Sorrells about the nonprofit organization and with a local hunter about his experiences donating hunted game to the organization.
Hunters for the Hungry is a nonprofit organization that uses deer meat donated by hunters to help feed the less fortunate who need it. Last year was a record for donations.
The organization was founded in 2004 by Harold Campbell. He and fellow hunting club members started donating extra venison to organizations that could use it.

Campell got a 501C3 designation a couple years later, making the organization official. Hunters for the Hungry has continued to grow since then.
Tim Sorrells is a board member for the organization who decided to get involved a few years ago:
The organization receives donations year-round from hunters throughout the state. One local hunter, Tim Shirley, has been donating to Hunters for the Hungry for several years now.
