The Chief Justice of South Carolina announced Family Courts will hear only emergency matters in the upcoming weeks.
Chief Justice Donald W. Beatty outlined in a release that emergency matters include but are not limited to: DSS Emergency Protective Custody, Juvenile Detentions, Bench Warrants, and Emergency Petitions for Orders of Protection from Domestic Abuse.
The action is aimed to protect the public from spreading the novel coronavirus.
Additionally, the courts will limit people in the courts.
The release states only attorneys, their clients, and necessary witnesses will be allowed at hearings.
