An Upstate man has been charged with arson following an apartment complex fire this weekend.
The fire department was dispatched to Valley Creek Apartments around 8:30 PM Saturday night.
Multiple crews operated on scene for about two and a half hours.
The Spartanburg County Arson team was called to investigate.
After investigation, they arrested 35-year-old Christopher Adam Banta on Sunday afternoon.
He is charged with Second Degree Burglary and Second Degree Arson.
Authorities report Banta confessed to a witness while at the scene of the fire. He later confessed to deputies.
Banta's motives are unknown, although his mother is the apartment complex manager.
No injuries have been reported.
