A student at the University of South Carolina has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The university announced on Saturday that the student is still living in one of their residence halls on the Columbia campus.
Officials said they were made aware of the case on Friday, March 20, and have since placed the 18 students living in the residence hall in quarantine.
The university said that 11 other students and one faculty member have also previously tested positive for COVID-19, but they are all in other states or off-campus.
"As Gamecocks, we make a pledge to demonstrate concern for others as part of our Carolinian Creed," the statement said. "Now more than ever, we must rise to meet that aspiration by following the guidance of health professionals, despite any personal inconveniences it may create."
