The President of the South Carolina State Senate has told members don't bother coming to Columbia next week. Senator Harvey Peeler issued the following statement via email Thursday.
I continue to monitor the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic and believe it is necessary to continue the Senate’s status for another week.
Senate Rule 1C authorizes the President “to declare the Senate adjourned to some other time” during “times of great emergency.” I will invoke this rule for the session days scheduled for next week.
The Senate will not meet in session April 28th, April 29th or April 30th.
As President, I reserve the right to call the Senate into session if legislative action is necessary to facilitate the state’s public health response to this crisis.
All Senate employees are directed to continue working from home until further notice.
