The City of Simpsonville has received a $500,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission for renovation of the Simpsonville Arts Center.
The project includes exterior and interior renovations to the Arts Center on Academy Street that will enable the City to offer arts, community theater and cultural and educational activities.
Mayor Janice Curtis said the City is grateful to the Commission for the grant and excited about the renovation.
“Fundraising efforts, fiscal responsibility and the grant awarded by ARC move Simpsonville one step closer to providing a public space for the arts that will contribute to the local economy and enhance quality of life,” Mayor Curtis said.
The Appalachian Regional Commission is a regional economic development agency representing a partnership of federal, state and local government. Part of the Commission’s strategic plan is leveraging natural and cultural heritage assets, such as the Simpsonville Arts Center.
“The City of Simpsonville was confident in its application for the ARC grant because the Arts Center is uniquely positioned to attract businesses, stimulate new investment and encourage redevelopment,” Gracely said.
The Simpsonville Arts Center renovation project is estimated to cost $2,446,960 and take approximately two years to complete. Work on the Arts Center is expected to begin in 2020.
