A car chase and crash near the WestGate Mall in Spartanburg leaves one person dead and another behind bars for street racing.
A Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputy on patrol saw two cars being driven recklessly and appeared to be involved in a street race just before 9PM.
The deputy attempted to stop one of the vehicles and a chase ensued, which ended when 21 year-old Alan M. Dixon of Boiling Springs crashed into four other vehicles at the intersection of W.O. Ezell Boulevard and Blackstock Road.
The driver of one of those vehicles struck, died in the collision; another driver was also injured. Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger has identified the victim as 50-year-old Thomas Michael Delise of Spartanburg.
Dixon was treated for minor injuries and is being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center without bond.
He was charged with several offences including Hit & Run resulting in death, malicious injury to personal property greater than $10,000 and failure to stop for a blue light.
