The Greenville County Sheriffs Office received a request from the SC Highway Patrol at 1:36PM Sunday, to respond to Highway 20 at Old Pelzer Road in reference to a reported traffic collision involving a death.
The Greenville County Coroner's Office also responded to Piedmont Highway at Old Pelzer Road regarding a fatality initially reported as a single car traffic collision. Upon investigation it was revealed the death was suspicious and not related to a traffic collision.
Jayla Thomas, a 21 year old female, was pronounced dead at the scene. The date and time of her injuries and subsequently her death will be determined after further investigation.
The case is being investigated as a homicide by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the Greenville County Coroner's Office. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
