UPDATE March 5, 2024: After an 11 year old boy was mauled by a pack of dogs in Clinton in February, the city is now on a mission to get its own Animal Control Officer.
A'Rhyan Anderson was attacked by 4 dogs the morning of February 14, 2024, while he was walking to a school bus stop according to Police. A neighbor was able to get the dogs off him.
On Monday, March 4, 2024, recommendations were made during a city council meeting to hire a part-time Animal Control Officer. Currently Laurens County Deputies are paid to patrol the city. A budget amendment is expected to be presented at the next Clinton city council meeting, in order to fill the position as soon as possible.
A'Rhyan was bit over 60 times that day. He's currently recovering after several surgeries.
The Clinton Police Dept. said three of the four dogs that attacked A'Rhyan were put down. The fourth was shot and injured, but hasn't been located. Officers have not yet been able to identify who owned the dogs.
PREVIOUSLY REPORTED: An 11-year-old Clinton boy was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital Wednesday morning after he was attacked by dogs.
Police say it happened around 7:40am on North Livingston Street while he was waiting at a school bus stop. According to Officers, 4 dogs mauled the boy. A bystander was able to help and fight the dogs off.
Officers did find the pack. Two were shot and two got away. As of right now, they are continuing to look for the owner. The two dogs that escaped are described as large black mixed-breed dogs.
Clinton Police are asking anyone with dogs on the loose to call 911 or Animal Control.
According to Police, the boy underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition.
