An investigation is ongoing following the 2nd inmate death at a Western North Carolina jail in less than a week.
The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office says 40 year old, Zeb John Davis of Spindale, North Carolina was found unresponsive in his cell this past Saturday.
Deputies tried to perform life saving measures on Davis, but were unsuccessful. Officials say Davis, was being held as a pre-trial detainee. His death is the 2nd such incident at the Rutherford County Detention Center in the past week.
As we previously reported, another inmate was pronounced dead there on May 7th, after being found unresponsive in his cell. The North Carolina State Bureau Of Investigations has been called into investigate both incidents.
