The Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal collision early Sunday morning in Laurens County.
Trooper Joe Hovis said it occurred just after 2:15AM on I-385 in the southbound lane near the 13 mile marker, about 6 miles east of Laurens.
The driver of a 2020 Hyundai was traveling south in the southbound lane, when it was struck head-on by the driver of a 2014 Kia that was traveling north in the southbound lane.
All three occupants of the Hyundai were not wearing seat belts, were trapped in wreckage and were mechanically extracted from the vehicle. One occupant was taken to Prisma Health Greenville, where they later died. The other two occupants of the Hyundai died at the scene.
The driver of the Kia was seat belted, the passenger was not. Both were trapped and had to be mechanically extracted. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
The Laurens County Coroner's office reports all but one of the five men killed in that wrong-way crash on I-385 early Sunday lived in the Upstate. The victims were as: Desmond Tareeq Ervin, age 28, of Laurens, Brandon Lamar Westfield, age 30, of Laurens, Ahmad Rashad Williams, 33, of Laurens, Abdul Jafar Aaron, age 28, of Woodruff and Carlos Jamarl Braddy, age 38, of Greensboro, NC
