9 arrested in connection to 2021 shooting on I-385

Mauldin PD

Nine people have been charged in a deadly crash and shooting on 385 nearly four years ago. In the early morning hours of May 23, 2021, a Chevy Impala carrying two brothers was in an altercation with multiple other vehicles on 385N near Old Stage Road.

According to the Mauldin Police Department, gun shots were fired and the Impala crashed into a barrier, killing Rashon and Andrekus Irby of Laurens. The brothers were ejected from their vehicle and died at the scene. Many other were also injured during the incident.

In a press release, Police said the crime scene spanned more than a half-mile "and was littered with weapons, shell casings, bullet fragments and other evidence."

Due to uncooperative witnesses and lack of leads at the time of the incident, the case was stymied. In 2024, lead investigator, Detective Jenna Willson, reopened the case and after a months-long investigation, was able to work with the Solicitor’s Office to make charges in the incident.

Seven of the nine suspects were taken into custoday today (Friday) and are currently in the Greenville County Detention Center.  Two other suspects will be extradited from other states.

The 9 charged include - Joshua Montai Emmanuel McGowen, 26, of Transylvania, NC, 26 year old Ziquavious Keandre Covington, 25 year old Daniel Malik Cunningham, 28 year old Aziz-Muhammad Jeffery Judge, 27 year old Braylon Demarkques McBeth, 29 year old Markus Antonio Dillard, 27 year old Jaquan Rashik Cain, 28 year old Malcolm Jamar Fuller all of Laurens and Karl Everett Robinson II, 32, of Blackwood, NJ.
