"Uninformed Whack Jobs" that was how Sheriff Hobart Lewis described protesters at Tuesday night's Greenville County Council Meeting. Almost 20 people signed up to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting. That group wanted to speak against the Sheriff's Office participation in a federal immigration program.
The 287 G program is a federal and local partnership program that allows officers to help ICE with local operations. The protestors were not allowed to speak due to this not being a council issue. The Sheriff is an elected official and his operational decisions aren't determined by the council.
Lewis told Fox Carolina " Last nights events were either paid protesters or uniformed whack-jobs that showed up to a council meeting. They have been protesting for a while downtown but are ignorant to the facts and how the process works.”
