Detectives with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office were called to Corn Mountain Road Wednesday afternoon, July 1, 2026, after a reported shooting. 63 year old Edward Russell was found at the scene suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He later died from his injuries.
Investigators say crime scene evidence and witness statements led detectives to the suspect, 62-year-old Ervin Perry Landis. He's now being held in the Henderson County Detention Center, charged with first-degree murder.
