A reported assault led to police making a gruesome discovery in Western North Carolina. The Asheville Police Department responded to the area of Warren Avenue, around 10:15 PM, Thursday.
Upon arrival, officers found a man severely beaten and he was taken to Mission Hospital to be treated. That led to a welfare check at a nearby home where police found a woman dead with stab wounds.
The deceased has been identified as Jennifer Rose Gerard. The suspect, Douglas Michael Stroupe was located nearby and was taken into custody.
He's charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, 1st degree burglary and attempted murder in connection to the assault.
