Carjacking suspect in custody after assaulting a deputy

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office reports man is in custody following a carjacking on White Horse Road. Deputies were first called around 9:30 Sunday night, after a man in the roadway was trying to flag down vehicles and eventually took a vehicle from a driver using an unknown object as a weapon. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Deputies minutes later located the suspect in the QT parking lot on White Horse road. The suspect tried getting away and struck another vehicle. Deputies eventually took the man into custody after he bailed out of the stolen vehicle and assaulted a deputy while resisting arrest. The suspect was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect has now been identified as 22 year old, Ilish Rodriguez. He faces charges of carjacking, two counts of resisting arrest, failure to stop for blue lights and reckless driving.
