A Charlotte area teenager is facing federal charges after reportedly planning a terrorist attack for New Year's Eve.
18 year old, Christian Sturdivant was arrested on New Year's Eve on charges of porividing support to a terrorist organization.
The alleged targets of his attacks were going to be a fast food restaurant and grocery store in Mint Hill, a Charlotte suburb. Sturdivant's plan was foiled after he told an undercover cop "I will do Jihad soon".
Officials say Sturdivant is an Islamic radical who had been on the FBI's radar since 2022. Sturdivant also allegedly communicated with a member of ISIS for over three years. He's also accused of trying to buy guns from an undercover federal agent.
A manifesto written by Sturdivant was reportedly found during a search of his grandfather's home. Sturdivant faces a potential max sentence of 20 years if convicted.
