More questions than answers abound after a shocking discovery was made in the Midlands. WIS TV in Columbia reported Friday that a fetus was found by workers at a water treatment plant in Sumter County.

Sumter County Coroner Robert Baker says the fetus was male and was somewhere around 13 weeks along. He says the autopsy found no signs of trauma, the incident has been ruled a stillborn death.

Baker added that the death is not a legal death because the fetus never took a breath.

The advocacy group Pro-Life Greenville is putting pressure on the South Carolina General Assembly to adopt bills that would help prevent this type of incident in the future.

SLED says its agents are analyzing tissue samples from the fetus in an effort to identify and locate the mother.
