A suspect has been charged following the deadly collision involving an Officer with the South Carolina State Transport Police.
GCSO deputies received a call just after noon regarding a trooper-involved collision, facing southbound, at North Pleasantburg Drive and North Garden Circle.
According to a release, an officer initiated a traffic stop when a vehicle struck the officer and the driver of the stopped car.
The officer was in his patrol vehicle, and the victim was standing by his passenger window when the collision occurred, knocking the victim into oncoming traffic where he was struck and killed on scene.
The officer was temporarily trapped in his vehicle, but was later extracted and taken to the hospital where he is expected to recover.
The suspect, 34-year-old Allan Lindsey Zack, ran away on-foot but was captured shortly after by SC Highway Patrol.
Zack is currently recovering in the hospital but has been charged with Felony DUI resulting in death, Felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident with death, leaving the scene of an accident with great bodily injury, and Failure to maintain lane.
