A Blind man is dead after a weekend apartment fire in Anderson County. The Coroner's Office says 73-year-old, Jerry Martin Ellis was died after his jacket caught fire, when his oven was accidentally turned on.
Dispatch received a call about a fire alarm at an apartment on Jonathan's Joy Circle in Anderson, around 5AM Sunday. Mr. Ellis, who was blind, was found dead inside the apartment.
The Coroner says, he died from thermal burns and smoke inhalation. His death has been ruled accidental.
