The Town of Central is sharing information about its drinking water after testing found levels of certain disinfection byproducts above drinking water standards.
The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services released the findings following the Town’s quarterly water testing. The agency found that levels of Total Trihalomethanes, or T-T-H-Ms, exceeded the maximum contaminant level.
Disinfection byproducts can form when disinfectants used to treat drinking water react with materials naturally present in the water.
The Town is implementing a corrective action plan that includes directional flushing of hydrants in the affected area near Old Shirley Road to improve water quality.

Additional testing will be conducted next quarter.
Officials say residents do not need to boil their water, and there is no boil-water advisory in effect.

Please share this information with everyone who drinks this water, especially anyone who may not have received this notice directly, such as residents of apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses. You may do so by posting this notice in a public location or by distributing copies by hand or mail.
