A dog is recovering after being shot at a home in the Upstate. The Greer Police Department responded to a report of a dog being shot at a home in the Chartwell Estates subdivision, around 7:15 Wednesday night.

Lt. Patrick Fortenberry reports that officers arrived to the scene and spoke with both the dog's owner and the shooter. The shooter claims he and his daughter were walking to the front door of a neighbor's house, where the dog lives.

The man who's not been identified said the dog came out of the house and charged towards him and his daughter. The daughter then jumped up on the hood of a car and the father shot the dog in the leg.

Police say, the father does have a concealed weapons permit. No charges were filed after an investigation was conducted.
