A controversial former South Carolina State Treasurer turned reality TV personality, has thrown his "hat in the ring" to succeed Governor McMaster.
Thomas Ravenel has announced he will run for Governor in 2026.

Ravenel won the election for Treasurer unseating longtime incumbent Grady Patterson in 2006. He was in office just about 6 months before resigning after being indicted on federal drug charges in 2007. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

He also starred for 5 seasons on the Bravo Network Reality Show "Southern Charm". In 2018, Ravenel was accused of sexual misconduct by two different women.

One of those women was the nanny of his children, Dawn Ledwell who appeared on the TV show. He pleaded guilty to 3rd degree assault in connection to the allegations by Ledwell. Ravenel avoided prison on that charge.

He reportedly settled a civil suit with the other alleged victim. Ravenel announced his plans to run for Governor, Thursday night. He referred to the other current candidates as "lightweights".
