A fire on the mountain over the weekend left multiple Western North Carolina businesses with significant damage. Fire crews responded to a blaze at a commercial plaza on Highlands Road in Franklin, around 8:30 AM Sunday.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw the kitchen of a restaurant there engulfed in flames. The fire spread from the kitchen to the attic and the restaurant and other businesses in the plaza were heavily damaged. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
