A former leader in the Upstate law enforcement community was in court Thursday morning and admitted his guilt. Former Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright entered guilty pleas on federal charges.
He's charged with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit theft and obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation. Wright faces up to 20 years in prison and fees on those charges.
Wright's cohorts former Sheriff's Office Chaplain Amos Durham and LB Watson a relative of Wright's are both named in the indictment. Durham faces up to 5 years behind bars and Watson faces up to two decades. A sentencing date for the trio has not yet been set.
Wright has now become the 12th Sheriff across the state of South Carolina to be convicted or plead guilty on criminal charges over the last 15 years.
