A judge has ruled that former U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema can be sued under North Carolina's "homewrecker" law. Sinema has acknowledged a romantic relationship with a member of her security team, Matthew Ammel.
Sinema's lawyers argued she can't be sued in North Carolina due to lack of connection to the state. However, a Federal Judge rejected that argument Friday, noting that Sineman sent Ammel text messages while he was in North Carolina.
The lawsuit, was filed by Ammel's ex-wife and seeks financial damages for "alienation of affection." North Carolina allows spouses to sue third parties responsible for breaking up marriages.
