A former deputy in Western North Carolina has been convicted after he ordered his dog to attack a suspect who had already surrendered.
Former Transylvania County Deputy Joshua Kory Jones was found guilty of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.

The charge stems from an incident in February of 2021, when multiple agencies were involved in a pursuit that crossed various county lines and ended near Asheville.

The suspect had surrendered and was being handcuffed when court records say, Jones moved officers back and sent his dog in and ordered him to attack.
Jones will avoid jail time, he was sentenced to a year of probation and community service.
