Four women who are members of an animal rescue group in the Upstate are facing charges after allegedly stealing a dog and putting him down.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says members of the group Anakin's Trails stole a 14 year old dog from his own yard and then had the dog euthanized.
The Sheriff's Office found out about the incident after the group posted photos of the dog online. When the group took the dog to the vet, he was diagnosed with heart failure. The vet gave the group two options possible treatment or euthanasia.
The Sheriff's Office says the group chose the latter option and lied to the vet saying that the owner surrendered the dog. The four Adrienne Burton, Mendi Paulsom, Ashley Raymond and Elizabeth Waldrop have all been charged in the incident and are currently out on bond.
Congresswoman and Gubernatorial Candidate Nancy Mace has spoken publicly in support of the four women.
