A fugitive wanted on child sex crime charges apprehended in Western North Carolina, Wednesday. The Macon County Sheriff's Office says 72 year old, Kermit Booth was arrested on warrants from Florida for sexual battery against a child under 12 years old.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office in Florida says Booth has criminal history going back a decade. Earlier this year, a judge there issued a warrant for Booth and set his bond at half a million dollars.
Booth was arrested in Macon County earlier this month but was released after his bond was lowered to 35 grand. The move was highly criticized by the Sheriff of Flagler County in a statement he called it a "travesty of justice" and unprecedented.
Florida Governor Ron Desantis has called for Booth to be extradited back to Florida. He's currently being held without bond in Macon County.
