A grand opening was held Wednesday for the city of Greer’s brand new fire station.
After less than a year of construction, the new fire station off S Suber Road in the western part of Greer is officially open.

At a grand opening ceremony Wednesday, Greer Fire Chief Dorian Flowers explained how this new location, along with another station planned for northern Greer, will help with response times in the area.
“By moving out here, this location is going to better position us to be able to respond to more calls more effectively and also a lot quicker,” Chief Flowers said. “We have a pretty significant travel distance to get off of Hood Road (the previous station) to get anywhere else, so that alone is going to save probably 30 seconds, 40 seconds off of the response times in any given direction. While that may not sound like a lot, it is a lot.”

While not directly part of the ForGreer project, Major Rick Danner explained that this new station coincides with the goals of that project to respond to the fast-growing city’s ever-increasing needs.
