Greenville Co. Council votes no on reading material resolution

A proposed resolution to restrict reading materials that have been described as promoting sexuality or having LGBTQ themes brought the public out in droves to last night's Greenville County Council meeting. Many on both sides of the issue spoke during the public comment portion prior to the vote.

That group included Susan Ward, a Greenville woman who has a son that is a member of the LGBTQ community. Pamela Vinson spoke in favor of the resolution, as did Barbara Evans. Charlotte Grove who identifies as LGBTQ said, she thinks their are other motives with the resolution.

Councilman Joe Dill proposed the resolution and he explained his thoughts behind it. His colleagues Ennis Fant and Stan Tzouvelakas both spoke on the subject. Fant explained why he was going to vote against it and did, with Tzouvelakas voicing his support for it and voting in favor if it. Ultimately, the resolution was voted down by a margin of 9-3.
