One of the most debated issues on the ballot for Greenville County voters is the proposed 1% sales tax increase that is being decided by the people. A group of County Councilmen have been outspoken against.
Councilman Benton Blount is one of them and he takes issue with the County generated revenue going to the state and being used to maintain state roads. Blount has joined WORD programming several times in the last month to talk about the issue.
Joining Blount in being openly critical of the idea is Councilman Rick Bradley, he feels the biggest issue is that the state is vastly behind on paving projects.
Bradley said " Just because the State has this revenue coming in, that doesn't mean they can magically produce contractors to pave roads".
Those who have a differing view from Blount and Bradley say they feel there's no harm in letting the people decide on the increase.
