Greenville Police Officer resigns amid allegations of misconduct

A police officer in the Upstate's largest city has resigned after investigations were launched into his alleged misconduct.

The Post and Courier reports that Greenville Police Officer Timothy Matthews has resigned after an investigation into claims that he pressured a woman in a victims survivor program for her phone number.

The paper also says a separate investigation determined that Matthews lied about whether he had sex with another employee in his patrol vehicle. The report claims he colluded with a woman to say their encounter happened in Greenville County instead of a city bar where he was on assignment.

Month prior to that, a complaint was filed by a woman in a sex trafficking survivors program claiming that Matthews pressured her to give him her phone number. Internal Affairs logs show that Matthews was in counseling for that incident.

Matthews had worked for the Greenville Police Department for three years prior to his resignation.
