Greenville PD looks to bridge gap with new initiative

A new program from the Greenville PD looks to bridge the gap and build relationships in communities around the city. Greenville Police Chief J.H. Thompson presented the initiative at the Greenville City Council meeting last Monday. Chief Thompson is building what he calls a Neighborhood Engagement Team also known as “NET”.

The idea is to have officers in 6 different areas of the city that head up the department’s outreach efforts in those areas. Chief Thompson feels this program will improve relations between the police dept. and the community.

Chief Thompson says while the program will start with 6 area of Greenville, his plan is to expand it to about 10 more neighborhoods around the city in the future. This past Friday, the GPD also made strides in that direction. A group of African-American male students from Greenville Technical College visited in an effort to help build more understanding between their community and police.
