Extreme winds and below freezing temps causing power outages across the Upstate

Duke
Duke Energy

High winds and freezing temperatures are putting a strain on the power grid and causing outages around the area. As of 1030 AM Friday, Duke Energy was reporting that over 20,000 customers around the Upstate were without power.

The largest of that group is in Greenville County with over 10,000 Duke customers without power. More than 7,00 Anderson County customers are currently without power and over 1,000 homes in Pickens County are without power.

Duke Energy says, that the strong winds throughout the day could hamper them from restoring the power as quickly as normal and outages during the day could linger due to the strong winds. Duke has not given an estimated time of restoration for the current outages.
