"Highways Or Die-Ways?" Four fatal crashes in Upstate over the weekend

It was another weekend that saw fatal crashes around the Upstate. One of those wrecks happened in Union County and another in Laurens County. The first wreck happened around 2 PM Friday afternoon on Allen Bridge Road just about a mile south of Fountain Inn.

The Highway Patrol says, a driver from Texas lost control of their Nissan sedan, ran off the road and hit a culvert. The driver was taken to Greenville Memorial where they died shortly after the crash.


The 2nd crash happened just before 8 AM Saturday morning on Highway 49 near Wildcat Road about 14 miles south of Union. Master Trooper Gary Miller reports, that the driver of a Toyota SUV went off the road, hit an embankment and overturned. The driver and one passenger were injured and transported to Spartanburg Regional. A backseat passenger was killed in the crash.

Upstate highways continued to be die-ways over the weekend, after two fatal wrecks in Greenville County. The 1st of those two crashes, happened just before 530 Saturday evening on West Butler Road near Ashmore Bridge Road in Mauldin. Officials say, a car collided with a motorcycle, killing the motorcyclist.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 32 year old, Ronald Osario Valencia of Greenville. The coroner's report says, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The 2nd of the two wrecks happened around 9:30 Saturday night on Pelham Road near Boiling Springs Road. The Highway Patrol says, a pedestrian was in the roadway on Pelham Road and was hit by a Hyundai SUV.

The driver of the SUV was not injured, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Coroner's Office has not yet released the identity of the deceased.
