An intersection in the Upstate has now been named after a longtime public servant. On Sunday, officials in Spartanburg County unveiled the new Robert E Brown Sr. Memorial intersection.
Brown was the longtime Fire Chief of the Glendale Fire Department and the intersection at Whitestone Glendale Road and Bethesda Road now bears his name. The dedication of the intersection came after State Senator Shane Martin lobbied the SCDOT to name the intersection after Brown.
He served with the Glendale Fire Department for over 40 years before retiring in 2017. After retirement, Brown kept volunteering with department. He died at the age of 87 in 2024, with his passing coming hours after he helped in response to a brush fire. A group gathered yesterday to celebrate Brown's legacy and decades of service.
