The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources says a large invasive lizard species have been found across the state.
Thus far, there have been 24 confirmed sightings of black and white tegus in 13 different counties. Two red tegus have been spotted in two different counties.
The lizard can grow to be as long as 4 feet and weigh 10-15 pounds. Officials say, the lizards are known to carry salmonella. They eat other reptiles and the eggs of ground nesting birds.
