The trial began Tuesday for an Upstate man charged with fatally shooting his daughters boyfriend. As we previously reported, Kenneth Lewis is on trial for murder after he admittedly shot Kyle Wofford in 2020.
The sticking point of the charge has been that Wofford was leaving Lewis' home after showed up there with a machete and an argument ensued. Lewis then got in a vehicle to follow Wofford and shot him while still on his property.
On Tuesday, the trial officially started and Judge Daniel Coble ruled not to strike the testimony that Wofford was abusing Lewis' daughter. The judge ruled to let the jury decide on the issue of self-defense.
Assistant State Attorney General Jason Bridges is prosecuting the case, he claims Lewis hunted Wofford down and shot him in cold blood.
The defense team for Lewis did ask for a continuance due to the declining health of their now 75 year old client, the judge denied that request.
