A suspect who was said to wielding a knife is dead after being by Police in Asheville. Dispatchers received several reports of a break-in at a home on Nancy Street around 12:30AM, Thursday.
Responding officers saw evidence of forced entry into the home and then encountered a man armed with a knife. After refusing multiple Police orders to drop the knife, Police shot the suspect. He was treated by EMS at the scene and taken to a hospital where he later died.
No officers were injured and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was contacted to conduct an investigation of the shooting, which is standard statewide protocol for officer involved shootings.
