The leader of one of the nation's premiere conferences in college sports was in the Upstate Thursday. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey was the featured speaker at a luncheon held in Downtown Greenville. The event comes ahead of the conference's return to the city for their Women's Basketball Tournament in March of 2023.
Sankey said that a Greenville was a natural fit for a host location, given the league's history here. The SEC has agreed to hold that tournament in Greenville through 2025. Below is audio from Commissioner Sankey talking about the decision to bring the tournament back here.
By the end of the event's 3 year run, the city of Greenville will have hosted over 100 Women's College Basketball games. Sankey was joined by SEC Associate Commissioner Tiffany Daniels, Bon Secours Wellness Arena GM Beth Paul and VisitGreenvilleSC VP Jonathan Brashier. Elected officials from the area, business leaders and members of the media were all in attendance.
