Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says he is investigating the death of a Limestone University baseball player found dead in his off campus Gaffney apartment Thursday afternoon. Fowler identified the student as Mark Tyler O’Dell, 24, of 1635 Stonecrest Lane.

Fowler said “O’Dell was found unresponsive by a maintenance worker at 12:50 p.m. after family members reported they had not been able to reach him by telephone since having last spoken to him Wednesday afternoon. The student lived alone and was secure in the apartment. I do not see any immediate indication of foul play in the death, however I will await autopsy results before ruling on the cause and manner."

Fowler said the Limestone senior had lived in Gaffney for the past 3 years. “Please keep the student’s family, teammates and the entire student body in your prayers during this difficult loss,” Fowler said.
