The fire hazards surrounding lithium-ion batteries were apparent during a weekend fire in the Upstate. The North Spartanburg Fire Department responded to a warehouse fire, Saturday.
The facility stores used lithium batteries that came from cell phone towers. Officials say crews found multiple battery packs sitting on pallets that were on fire. The heat caused the batteries to explode.
Fire Marshal Daryl Workman says, firefighters spent more than 3 hours getting the blaze put out. This is the 2nd such incident at the same warehouse.
Workman says his office is working with the warehouse to make sure that those batteries are taken to a recycle plant to avoid potential fires in the future.
