A longtime fire chief in the Upstate has died after helping fight a fire. The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office says 87 year old, Robert Earl Brown was pronounced dead at Spartanburg Regional, Thursday afternoon.
Brown was helping fire crews at a brush fire on Brown Road in Spartanburg. The Coroner's Office believes that he died from natural events brought on by the stress of fighting the blaze.
Brown served as Chief Of The Glendale Fire Department for over 40 years prior to retiring from the position and continued to serve even after he retired as chief. Brown was inducted into the Spartanburg County Fire Chiefs Hall Of Fame back in 2000.
