Officials say the driver of a tractor trailer following too close behind a van has been arrested after causing a crash that killed three adults and five children on I-85 in North Georgia.
A spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Public Safety said Tuesday that 33 year old Kane Aaron Hammock has been charged with eight counts of vehicular homicide.
Officials say the semitrailer was following too close to the Dodge van on Interstate 85 in Jackson County on Monday afternoon when the collision happened.
Four other vehicles also crashed in what officials described as a “chain reaction” after the initial collision. The identities of the eight people killed in the van have not been released.
The crash is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team as well as the National Transportation Safety Board.
