A South Carolina man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing a biological male who identified as a woman. Daqua Lameek Ritter, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for the December 2019 murder of Dime Doe, a Black transgender woman from the Low Country town of Allendale.
In late February, a jury convicted Ritter of all crimes listed in the indictment, which included a federal hate crime charge, a federal weapons violation and obstruction.
Court records state that Ritter had been involved in a sexual relationship and his family and friends learning of the relationship led to the murder.
