Man who served WNC as a public servant to be laid to rest

A memorial service is set for this coming weekend to honor a man who served the people of Western North Carolina for decades. Jimmy Hall of Arden died earlier this month at the age of 73.

Hall was a Western North Carolina native. He served in the U.S. Air Force and also worked for the Skyland Fire Department. He worked his way up in the department and eventually was named Assistant Chief. Hall left Skyland for the Asheville Fire Department where was employed until 2001.


Hall also served as a reserve officer for the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office until he retired from there last year.

Hall's family is holding a visitation from 5-7 PM Friday at Groce Funeral Home of Lake Julian. A memorial service will be held at 2PM Saturday at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, with his burial to follow.
