A decorated marine from the Upstate has died while training on the West Coast. Rob Jones has more on that story. Officials with the U.S. Marines say, Lance Corporal Jackson J. Forringer of Chesnee died Thursday, during a training exercise at the Marine Ground Air Combat Center in California.
An investigation is ongoing and no further details were released by the Marines, as of the time of this report. Forringer graduated from Chesnee High School in 2021 and was actively serving in the Marines, which his family says was his lifelong dream. He was stationed at Camp Lejune in North Carolina. Forringer was awarded multiple medals for his service while in the Marines.
A graveside service with full military honors is slated to be held for him at 4 PM, Saturday May 6th at the Springhill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee. Lance Corporal Jackson J. Forringer died at the age of 20.
